The Prickett Dam Tract is located within the SE ¼ , Section 9, Township 50 N, Range 35 W. The management plan for this tract has been completed and FERM implementation has begun. Sale documents are available below.
The current status of the Prickett Dam Tract is detailed in the Prickett Dam Management Implementation Report
The Prickett Dam management plan has been approved by the FFC. This report was completed in December 2002 by Jason Mittlestat, Jonathan Neuendorff, Jason Nordine, Mark Nordine, and Mellissa Powers. The FFC has made the following alterations to the management recommendations.
1) Feather the southern boarder of stand 1a with crop tree retention within the clear cut to the south. Focus on young stems with relatively little possibility of blow down.
2) Retain all conifers (except balsam) in clear cut portions of the tract.
3) Reassess the rotation age of the popal stands, and consider a shorter rotation.
A significant feature of the management of this tract is the inclusion of an eastern hemlock regeneration study. This particular implementation of the study serves as a replicate for the initial trial, installed in the southern portion of section 18 at the Ford Forestry Center.

Treatment preparation on the Smith Tract is complete.
One of the major issues facing the Smith Tract is access. Kelly Standerfer has produced a map of the tract showing potential access via Lake Superior Land ownerships to the north.

Status as of March 7, 2005:
The landowner invited a local logger to look over the sale and offer a bid for the winter of 2004-2005 harvest timeframe.
The logger commented that equipment movement would be difficult at best due to not enough trees being marked.
The spring 2005 FERM team took these comments under advisement and conducted a site review in early February 2005.
The findings indicate that an additional 40-60 sq.ft./acre of trees need to be marked (the prescription calls for marking the stand to a residual density of 120 sq.ft/acre from the existing density of 200 sq.ft./acre).
The spring 2005 FERM team will be returning to the site to conduct additional marking on March 18, 2005.
Once this is complete, updated bid forms and volume estimates will be generated.
Cutting is likely to take place in the late summer of 2005.
