Baron (Section 12) Tract


The Baron Tract is located in Section 12 of the Ford Forestry Center (FFC) property. Total tract size is 160 acres. The property contains three stand types: fire origin (natural) red pine, aspen and red oak. A management plan was completed by capstone course students and was reviewed by the FFC committee in 2003.

Completed Work (Spring 2005)

  • Ran east line of the property.
  • Obtain accurate GPS coordinate of SE corner and generate map of CFI plots based on this corner.
  • Uploaded approximate CFI plot locations into GPS, navigated to points and flagged CFI plots .
  • Management recommendations for property.

Completed Work (Summer 2006)

  • Mark red pine stand for thinning.
  • Research utility and cabin pole markets.
  • Bid out timbersale.
  • Sign timbersale contract.

Completed Work (Winter 2007)

  • Flag skid trails.
  • Finish Marking.
  • Review utility pole specs with buyer.

Current Work (Fall 2007)

  • Timber sale inspections.
