Prickett Tract

The Prickett Dam Tract in southern Houghton County (SE ¼ , Section 9, Township 50 N, Range 35 W). A capstone management plan was completed in 2002 and approved for implementation by the FFC committee with the following alterations:

1. Feather the southern boarder of stand 1a with crop tree retention within the clear cut to the south. Focus on young stems with relatively little possibility of blow down.
   
   
2. Retain all conifers (except balsam) in clear cut portions of the tract.
   
   
3. Reassess the rotation age of the aspen stands, and consider a shorter rotation.

A significant feature of the management of this tract is the inclusion of an eastern hemlock regeneration study. This particular implementation of the study serves as a replicate for the initial trial, installed in the southern portion of section 18 at the Ford Center.
