Michigan Tech Recreational Trails


The 600+ acre Michigan Tech Recreational Trail System is located just south of the main campus in Houghton, Michigan. The FERM has been active in a variety of projects related to upgrading and expanding the trail system, improving wildlife habitat, stream crossing upgrades and timber sale administration. During the summer of 2008 the trails were expanded over recently acquired property and linked to the trails at the Nara Nature Park. This includes both wide track (20 feet wide +/-) Nordic Ski and Mountain Bike trails. A summary of the activity associated with the expansion is listed below.

Completed Work (Spring 2008)

  • GPS Trails laid in by Jeff Parker.
  • Develop drawings and fill out DEQ permit for 8 stream crossings.
  • Start tree marking.

Completed Work (Summer 2008)

  • Paint recently surveyed property lines.
  • Complete Tree Marking.
  • Establish temporary crossing over Peepsock Creek.
  • Sale inspections.

Completed Work (Fall 2008)

  • Seed and mulch main access road.
  • Finish inspections.
